About Us

Introduction

I warmly welcome you to BCM – an organisation that throughout its long history has sought to support people at their point of need providing quality and compassionate care and driven by a commitment to express the Christian faith in action.

Established in 1889 our motivation was then, and remains, meeting the needs of the whole person, spiritual, emotional, social and physical. We do this through our diverse social care program providing support to children, young people, older people and families

Our Mission

Our Mission is to  provide quality, compassionate support to people at their point of need. We operate on  a province wide basis and our passionate people and sense of purpose are what makes BCM a distinctive and powerful movement for good in Northern Ireland.

The forward-thinking BCM we know of today was borne out of the inner city Methodist Missions movement of the late 19th century. Our pioneers had a vision to feed, house and ultimately convert the most vulnerable in society. That mission has evolved over time, but ultimately remains inspired by the same values and message of hope that is focused on supporting people with unmet needs, however complex. About us

Our Values

From our origins of Christian outreach, we now offer a response to need irrespective of belief in today’s society. Our values are lived out by our staff and volunteers:

Integrity

We do what we say we are going to do, with an honest and sincere approach

Compassion

We understand the hardships faced by those in need and respond with empathy and kindness

Person-centred

People will always come before process, and we focus on the individual

Respect

We value one another and treat one another as we would hope to be treated ourselves

About Us

Our Constitution

Our work is defined by two objectives.

Christian Faith

Our first objective is the advancement of the Christian faith.

Social Outreach

Today, this objective forms a majority of BCM's work, and it is inspired by the Christian values of compassion and charity that founded BCM. We ask that staff and volunteers reflect these values, and yet our object two work is entirely secular and accessible to those from any faith background, or indeed none at all.

About Us

How we Work

Our work is delivered primarily by a staff team of around 250 people, who are overseen by a voluntary Board of Trustees. BCM staff also work alongside a committed team of volunteers in the community.

Board of Trustees

Our trustees are committed to serving the long-term needs of the organisation, with a wealth of experience in the finance, business, community and voluntary sectors. Their role is to set strategic direction, whilst overseeing policy and risk management. They are continuously involved in the life of the charity, often providing important advice and connections at service level.

Audit and Risk Management

BCM operates a thorough risk management policy to guide responsible decision-making. This policy is approved and reviewed by our board as an ongoing risk-register on financial, operational and safeguarding matters.

As a charity we report to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland annually as well as to other accountable bodies. The organisation appoints an independent auditor through the Board of Trustees at our AGM. They also sign off on the outcome, which details our performance both financially but also within our services. These outputs are fully transparent and accessible via the Charity Commission.
